This is part 2 of a 2-part blog post. Please click here to read the first post if you haven't.

We are going to jump straight into it because this is such an important message, and it's time for you to get in the correct posture to receive and walk into everything that God has for you.

A Disclaimer

This blog post is not my typical lighthearted message. This is specifically for those looking to truly go higher in God. This is for people who have felt God calling them closer to Him and are ready to be serious about their walk. This is for the people who understand that “we are not fighting against human enemies. Instead, we are fighting against the rulers and the powerful spirits that have authority over this dark world. we are fighting against the evil spirits who live in the heavens” Ephesians 6:12

So, with that being said, if you are truly ready, and this doesn't scare let’s talk about the three steps to getting in position with God.

How to Get in Position

  1. Get in His Presence and Stay in His Presence

Now, I know you're probably thinking I'm stating the obvious, but how often do we shift out of God presence as if we don't know we shouldn't? The thing is, all it takes is the smallest thing to step out of His presence: a conversation that puts you in a funk, a short ride up the street with “idiot” drivers, or a simple bad day. The moment we get emotional, we tend to step out of God's presence.

The issue here is that we think sin is the only thing that takes us out of God's presence, but our very own flesh and thoughts can do the same. I can’t help but think about the Mary and Martha story in Luke 10:38. I was obsessed with this story when I first came to Christ because my girl Martha was me in a nutshell: stressed by the weight of the world, anxious about all that needs to get done, and frustrated with people who seem to just not care or carry the same weight as me.

But here is something I missed when I read that story so many times. In the first verse of this story (verse 38), it says Martha welcomed Jesus into her home. She welcomed Him. Meaning, she was in the presence of God. She had Him in her home, and somewhere along the way, she became distracted and stepped out of His presence. He was still in the room, but she couldn't see that because all she saw was the weight of her stress.

It’s so important to understand that just because we are in the presence of God doesn't mean we will always remain there if we don’t learn to be intentional about staying in His presence. The moment a bad thought pops into your head, start speaking the Word over yourself. The moment you feel a type of way, start praying to God. You HAVE to get in His Word, you have to pray, you have to yield to Him, you have to seek Him, you have to stay at His feet. This is not a suggestion. How can you be with someone if you refuse to BE with them? Because the moment you shift is the moment things come pouring in, which brings me to my next point.

  1. Crucify Your Flesh DAILY

I want you to know that I love you, and I am truly holding your hand when I say this. In Revelation 3:16, God says something very powerful and important that we should take very seriously: “So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.”

Again, this blog post is for those who are truly ready to count the cost, pick up their cross, and follow God. Every day and every moment of your life, you have to CHOOSE to crucify your flesh. Why? Because our flesh and our spirit want two different things. Our flesh wants the things of this world, and our spirit wants to be in relationship with God. If we are not careful, an unchecked flesh will have us wavering in and out of the presence of God.

God told me months ago that I need to start going to church in person every Sunday, but I love the convenience of online church and the excuse that I live too far (I’m talking an hour and a half away). But God divinely connected me and placed me at that church for a reason. See, God does not care about the distance or the inconvenience because He has a way for me to get there. I have a perfectly working car and the means to drive—glory to God! He has a purpose for me there. But I sit behind the excuses of not wanting to put mileage on my car or not feeling like driving. Or even, I am extremely involved even online, so I'm "good".

My flesh makes these worldly excuses that put me in disobedience with God. If I specifically heard from God that I need to be in person, He has something for me that I am not getting online. I’ve been asking God for things that I want and things that I think I need, but I can’t even do what He asks of me.

If you are in a relationship with someone, how would you feel if you did everything for them, but they did nothing for you? You’d be ready to walk away, wouldn’t you? Praise the Lord that we have a patient and forgiving God who will never leave nor forsake us. But when we continue to let our flesh control us, we step further out of the presence of God. So, He may be in the room, but we can’t see that because the moment we step out of His presence, we let the enemy in.

Matthew 12:43-44 says, “When an evil spirit leaves a person, it goes into the desert, seeking rest but finding none. Then it says, ‘I will return to the person I came from.’ So it returns and finds its former home empty, swept, and in order. Then the spirit finds seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they all enter the person and live there. And so that person is worse off than before. That will be the experience of this evil generation.”

So, the next time God says go to church in person—GO. When He says get in community, find a church, and become a member, you need to move! When He tells you to hit the gym—Go! When God says don’t go out with that boy—don’t! When God says don’t spend your money today—listen! When God says stop listening to that artist—listen! Tell your flesh no. Crucify it. Choose to obey God so you remain in His presence because the cost is great. This is serious. This is spiritual. I literally wish I can jump through your screen and yell how important this is.

  1. Be Free in Christ

What does that mean? I made the intentional decision that I will no longer walk in fear. God has blessed me with the gift to write, specifically in storytelling and poetry. Yet, I have let fear stop me from sharing, producing, and even affecting how often I create. I let the worry of my art being appreciated turn me away. I let my fear of criticism keep me at a halt. I let my desire for perfection stop me until I get it just right.

God is not looking for perfect—He’s looking for your YES. He will perfect you along the way because when you are in Him, you become perfect in Christ. Despite what this world says, you actually do have the ability to be PERFECT when you are IN Him. But you can’t get there—you can’t perfect your craft—when you let emotion or fear take away your ability to MOVE for God.

In February, I professed that I am DONE walking in fear. Though I sometimes get scared, I will keep my eyes on God and still move. I won’t be paralyzed by comparison, by how someone else is better at it, or by how popular someone else is. If God has given me a gift, it’s because He needs to use it to bring more people to Him.

There is purpose on your life. There is purpose on your gifts. There is purpose in you. If you are not moving freely in the salvation that Jesus has given us, you are not allowing God to use you to the level that He can. Stop making excuses. Stop waiting. God says GO! What are you waiting for?
